Book Review of The Dead Detective by J.R. Rain

I was much honored to be provided an advanced copy of this book to read and review, as I am a huge J. R. Rain fan.   I have to be honest, based upon the title; I most likely would not have chosen this book as I thought it was going to be a typical “Guy” detective story.  I  confess I am a huge Castle fan, but would not have read the Castle books originally, if I had not first seen the series on TV.

Imagine my surprise as I began reading this book,  What...it's a Zombie paranormal story!  But don’t be misled by that, as it is not about your typical Hollywood brain eating Zombies, and the characters even make reference to this.

As typical with JR he quickly draws you into the character.  I knew I was in it for the long haul when it began with the main character saying “you know you’ve had a really bad night when you wake up inside of a chalk outline.”  The character is shockingly,  a female detective named Richelle.  And as in the Samantha Moon series, this author writes from a female’s perspective and really nails it when the character is worried she will have to get her suit dry-cleaned again.

I found myself so enthralled with the character and her story I continued reading well into the night, I had to see if Richelle was  going to make it or not, solving the mystery of who shot her, as she wanders in and out of the afterlife working with ghosts. All the while Richelle must hide from her co-workers etc that she has no heartbeat or pulse and is perpetually cold.

This is a must read for paranormal lovers, it is one of the best Zombie stories I have read.  I can’t wait for the sequel as I must find out how Richelle continues on this journey. Does she stay a zombie, how does she live, there better be a sequel soon!
J.R. you did it again!   I give it 5 stars.

Book Review of J.R Rains Moon Dragon

Once again JR hits a home run with Moon Dragon, a sequel in the Samantha Moon Detective for hire series.  I devoured this book in a matter of minutes! As typical for JR he makes the character as if she could be one of your best friends!  I could imagine having the conversations about her life that she shares with her closest confidants.  Samantha Moon is foremost a Mother, and experiences all the tribulations single mothers everywhere do, but with a twist, as she is of course a "Super Vampire."  I found the best part, and most appealing thing about the Samantha Moon character, is the ordinariness this author creates in her life.  Samantha struggles daily to contain the demon within her and retain her humanity, while juggling children, job, friends and family.  Don't be deceived by her love for Starbucks, she is a bad ass kick butt vampire!  But alas, I do have one negative thing to say about this book, as with all the JR Samantha Moon stories, they are too short!  Come on JR regale us with a longer story line in the next episode, I hate coming to the end!  Excellent sequel and a must read for JR Rain fans!  I of course give it 5 stars as that is the max.  Great Job JR!
